Vacaville Gallery Displaying Work of Local Artist Featured in

New North Light Publication

MARCH, 2007

marianne_post.jpgVACAVILLE--The work of Vacaville artist Marianne Post, whose soft pastels appear in a soon-to-be published book, "Capturing Radiant Light and Color in Oils and Soft Pastels," will be displayed March 1 through April 28 at the Artist Corner Frame Shop and Gallery, 438 Main St., Vacaville.

The book, written by master painter Susan Sarback of Fair Oaks, will be published in February by North Light Books.

"The book is about how painting and seeing is always about the quality of light," Post said. "Pastel has started to become a popular medium to work in, and that is one of the reasons that North Light Books chose to publish a revised and expanded edition."

Post works exclusively in the medium of soft pastels, used by Edgar Degas and other Impressionists.  She works on a self-prepared surface that allows her to layer pigment and capture the color of light and atmosphere surrounding her subject.

“I am fascinated with patterns of atmospheric light found in large vistas as well as the endless color variations in intimate landscape subjects," said Post, whose work is also displayed at the Chroma Gallery, Fair Oaks. Post teaches workshops on painting with pastels at the School of Light and Color, Fair Oaks.

A native of San Francisco and a 30-year resident of Vacaville, she studied art and design at the University of California and the Academy of Art University. She worked for major corporations in San Francisco and San Diego, and most recently as a principal artist for the University of California, Davis. She retired from the university in 2006 after an 18-year career.

Sarback's previous edition, "Capturing Radiant Light and Color in Oils,” published in 1994 by North Light Books, sold more than 22,000 copies. International Artist magazine named her one of the world's master painters in 2000. “Marianne Post’s pastel paintings reveal a great vibrancy about life. Her technical ability, strong and interesting compositions, and radiant color are the reasons that her paintings are featured in my new book,” states Sarback.

Sarback, originally from New York city, studied under Henry Hensche, a student of Charles Hawthorne. a contemporary of Claude Monet. "So, there is a lineage of impressionistic seeing and painting, so to speak," Post said.

The book will be in Borders, Barnes and Nobles, and other major bookstores in late March or early April. Amazon is now taking pre-orders.
